Presentation of the Statute of the Commune of Piran

In the frame of the project Heart of Istria and in collaboration with the Commune of Piran, a presentation of the Statute of the Commune of Piran from 1834, the facsimile and accompanying study (Darko Darovec, Janez Šumrada), was organised at the Commune in Piran.

One of the objectives of the project was the valorisation of cultural heritage of Istrian towns (in this case Piran and its surroundings) through research and presentation of the elements of urban culture and identity and their relations in the cultural and historical context. The researchers working on the project prepared a scientific edition of the Statute of Commune of Piran from 1834, including the facsimile and accompanying study.

The publication of the Statute, the facsimile and the accompanying study, which places the the Statute and its aim in a wider regional and (Medieval European) global context, gives readers, especially experts and scientists, a complex overview of the integrality and the development of medieval statutory stipulations which contributes to a better knowledge of the source and is at the same time extremely useful for further use of this data for analyses and scientific discussions.
