Presentation of the Statute of the Commune of Isola

In the frame of the project Heart of Istria and in collaboration with the Commune of Isola, a presentation of the Statute of the Commune of Isola from 14th to 18th century; the facsimile and accompanying study (author Dušan Kos) was presented at the Manzioli Palace in Isola.

One of the objectives of the project was the valorisation of cultural heritage of Istrian towns (in this case Isola and its surroundings) through research and presentation of the elements of urban culture and identity and their relations in the cultural and historical context. The researchers working on the project prepared a scientific edition of the Statute of Commune of Piran from 1834, the faksimile and accompanying study. The Statute is a typical expression of the elements of the urban culture and law in Isola and represents generic growth and an integral development of the communal law of Isola.

The publication of the Statute, the facsimile and the accompanying study, which places the the Statutem and its aim in a wider regional and (Medieval European) global context, gives readers, especially experts and scientists, a complex overview of the integrality and the development of the medieval statutory stipulations which contributes to a better knowledge of the source and is at the same time extremely useful for further use of this data for analyses and scientific discussions.
